At the invitation of Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 20 sent a message to the 78th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva.

In his message, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that in the process of developing and building the country, Vietnam always puts people at the center, as the subject and driving force for development, while focusing the highest on caring for, protecting health and developing people.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that issues related to health and people are comprehensive, global, and all-people, so it is necessary to promote multilateralism, cooperation, and international solidarity. The international community needs to join hands, join efforts, and unite to solve common challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic, respond to climate change, population aging, and resource depletion, etc.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called on developed countries to increase stronger and more effective support for developing countries in terms of science, technology, resources, and capital, especially in helping to produce medicines and vaccines to prevent epidemics, increase consultation on institutional building, human resource training, capacity building, and implementation of policies to protect and care for people's health.

Emphasizing its strong support for the WHO and the World Health Assembly, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to make active contributions, share its experience, knowledge and achievements with the international community. Vietnam is committed to investing in people, protecting and caring for human health, contributing with countries around the world to build a healthy world and healthy people in all countries, ensuring the legitimate and legal rights and interests of people.

The World Health Assembly is the highest decision-making body of the WHO. The 78th session, themed “One World for Health,” will be held from May 19-27 and will focus on concluding negotiations on a global agreement on pandemic preparedness, while also discussing priorities such as promoting universal health coverage, strengthening health systems, combating antimicrobial resistance, and addressing noncommunicable diseases.
