Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan

Mr. Sullivan agreed with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the need to realize the contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and said he would push for the US to soon recognize Vietnam as a market economy .

On September 20 in New York City, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. The meeting took place in a sincere atmosphere with substantive and effective exchanges.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the strong support of the National Security Council in promoting the Vietnam-US bilateral relationship over the past years, especially the personal contribution of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in successfully arranging the State visit to Vietnam by President Biden on September 10-11 and the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

The Prime Minister proposed that the US side prioritize promoting the roadmap to recognize Vietnam's market economy status.

To quickly implement the important results of President Joe Biden's recent visit to Vietnam, the Prime Minister proposed that the US prioritize promoting the roadmap for recognizing Vietnam's market economy status, not using trade defense measures against Vietnamese goods, especially agricultural products because they are related to farmers' livelihoods, on the basis of ensuring balance, equality, and mutual benefit.

The Prime Minister appreciated the US's clear stance on the recent terrorist attack in the Central Highlands, and suggested that both sides cooperate to reduce the opposition of reactionary and hostile elements against the country and people of Vietnam.

Appreciating the results of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's exchange with the US business community, Mr. Sullivan affirmed his support for Vietnam to strengthen cooperation with the US in the fields of high technology, green energy transition, climate change cooperation, education and training, etc., in order to continue to deepen, substantiate and effectively deepen cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Sullivan also welcomed Vietnam to continue participating in discussions and negotiations within the Indo-Pacific economic framework in accordance with Vietnam's conditions.

The two sides also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed the US to continue promoting comprehensive and responsible cooperation with ASEAN in particular and the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions in general.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan affirmed ASEAN's central role and highly appreciated Vietnam's proactive and active role in regional and international forums such as ASEAN, APEC, and the United Nations.

The two sides emphasized the importance of maintaining peace, stability, ensuring security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, and resolving disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
