During the working trip, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung met with Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat with the participation of local government representatives and the Thai-Vietnamese community. At the meeting, the Ambassador emphasized that the upgrading of relations between Vietnam and Thailand to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is an important opportunity to promote deeper and broader cooperation, including cooperation between localities.
The Ambassador highly appreciated Phuket's tourism development potential and suggested that the province consider establishing cooperative relations with some localities in Vietnam. At the same time, he also proposed that the Phuket government support the opening of direct flights between Vietnam and Phuket to enhance trade and tourism connections; creating favorable conditions for the Thai community of Vietnamese origin living here.

Governor Sophon Suwannarat expressed his impression of Vietnam's socio -economic development achievements and acknowledged the positive contributions of the Vietnamese community, about 1,000 people (including Thais of Vietnamese origin), to the development of Phuket province. He affirmed his support for promoting the establishment of cooperative relations with appropriate localities in Vietnam and was willing to consider the possibility of opening direct flights connecting Phuket with Vietnam.
During his working trip, Ambassador Pham Viet Hung visited and worked with the General Director of Phuket International Airport Monchai Tanode, with the participation of Mr. Ngo Tri Hung, Head of Vietnam Airlines branch in Thailand. At the meeting, the two sides agreed that the potential for bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of aviation and tourism, is very large. The Ambassador asked Phuket International Airport to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese airlines when planning to operate flights to Phuket.
The Ambassador also met and worked with Thaneth Tantipiriyakij, President of the Phuket Tourism Association, representatives of the Phuket Hotel Association and the Phuket Provincial Industry Federation. The meetings aimed to exchange information and promote cooperation in the fields of services, accommodation and tourism between businesses of the two countries.
Meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese community and the Thai-Vietnamese Business Association in Phuket, the Ambassador informed about the socio-economic development situation of Vietnam and major policies of the Party and State. The Ambassador acknowledged and praised the solidarity and homeland-oriented spirit of the people; at the same time, he hoped that the community would continue to preserve national culture, comply with local laws, and actively contribute to the friendly relations between Vietnam and Thailand.

Mr. Duong Xuan Son, Chairman of the Thai Vietnamese Association and Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, representative of the Thai Vietnamese Business Association in Phuket expressed their pleasure to welcome the delegation. They said that there are currently about 150 overseas Vietnamese families with more than 600 people living in Phuket, most of whom work in the tourism service sector and have stable lives. They always pay attention to and closely follow the policies of the Party and State, while making efforts to preserve cultural identity and support each other in life.
