The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue of Thanh Hoa province has just issued a document agreeing with the proposal of Trung Son Hydropower Company Limited on the operation of flood discharge at Trung Son Hydropower Reservoir from 11:00 a.m. on September 10, 2024.

Accordingly, Trung Son Hydropower Company Limited operates the reservoir to discharge floodwaters with a spillway discharge of 1,330 m3/s; the flow through the plant is 500 m3/s. The total water flow downstream is 1,830 m3/s.
Areas that need to be cautious and have safety measures include: People living along both banks of the Ma River in the districts of Quan Hoa, Ba Thuoc, Quan Son, Cam Thuy, Vinh Loc, Yen Dinh, Thieu Hoa, Hoang Hoa, Ha Trung, Nga Son, Hau Loc, Thanh Hoa City, Sam Son City, Thanh Hoa Province; Van Mai and Mai Hich communes of Mai Chau District, Hoa Binh Province; owners of hydroelectric dams downstream including Thanh Son, Hoi Xuan, Ba Thuoc I, Ba Thuoc 2, Cam Thuy 1...
Trung Son Hydropower Company Limited requests the People's Committees of districts and people downstream to proactively implement plans to ensure safety for people, property and works during the time the reservoir releases floodwaters.
The Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention, Search and Rescue of Thanh Hoa province requires that during the flood discharge process, Trung Son Hydropower Company Limited must comply with the operation of the spillway gate to ensure the operation process of inter-reservoirs in the Ma River basin; regularly monitor and update information on weather, rain, floods, water levels at Ly Nhan Hydrological Station; water levels and water flow to the reservoir and the following forecast bulletins to operate in accordance with reality.
The Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control of Thanh Hoa province also requested that during the flood discharge operation of Trung Son reservoir, the hydroelectric reservoirs: Thanh Son, Hoi Xuan, Ba Thuoc I, Ba Thuoc 2, Cam Thuy 1 operate with a flow rate no greater than the water flow to the reservoir; at the same time, ensure that the water level of the reservoir does not exceed the normal water level. When the water level reaches the normal water level, operate with a discharge rate equivalent to the flow to the reservoir.
It is known that since mid-July, Trung Son hydropower reservoir has maintained flood discharge operations with the discharge flow equal to the inflow flow; at the same time, regulating the reservoir water level through generating electricity from generators to maintain the water level lower than the normal water level (160 m), completely lowering the water level to 150 m to ensure that the flood prevention capacity is always maintained.
