At a conference attended by 49 African leaders from December 13-15, 2022 in Washington DC, President Joe Biden said he would visit Africa next year.

In 2023, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and several cabinet members visited African countries, but the White House owner has never set foot on the continent.

So, it took nearly two years for President Joe Biden to fulfill that promise. According to the White House announcement on September 24, the outgoing head of state will visit Angola from October 13-15.

The visit is part of the US administration's efforts to strengthen ties with the continent, countering China's growing influence.

With this trip, Mr. Joe Biden will be the first US President to visit sub-Saharan Africa since 2015.

In the capital Luanda, the White House boss will discuss with his counterpart João Lourenço about economic and infrastructure partnerships, including a railway project scheduled to start in Lobito (Angola), connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Indian Ocean...

Before going to Angola, the US leader plans to stop in Berlin and meet with German leaders.

Asked in May about the timing of his Africa trip, Joe Biden said he hoped to visit the continent after the presidential election in November.

“I plan to come in February after I am re-elected,” he said as he welcomed Kenyan President William Ruto to the White House.
