With four private twin cabins and a cave room with a double bed, dining area and toilet, Deep Sleep is a hotel unlike any other. Located deep within a disused part of the Cwmorthin Quarry, 419m underground, Deep Sleep is billed as the deepest hotel in the world. Not only will guests have to pay $688 a night to experience the hotel, they will also have to undertake a challenging expedition – traversing steep paths and old mine shafts.

The Deep Sleep Hotel opened in April by the Go Below company and is open to guests only one night a week, on Saturdays.

Visitors will begin their adventure at the Go Inside base near the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, where trained guides will guide them to the underground hotel.

After a 45-minute hike through the mountains, guests pack up at a small cottage and head down to Cwmorthin, the world’s largest disused slate quarry. The challenging route includes old staircases, derelict bridges and a slide. It takes around an hour to reach the hotel.

While staying at Deep Sleep, guests are treated to hot drinks and expedition-style meals before drifting off into a deep sleep. The temperature in the world’s deepest hotel remains a constant 10 degrees Celsius year-round, but the heavily insulated cabins are said to be quite cozy. The hotel also has running water, electricity, and even Wi-Fi via a 1km Ethernet cable from a 4G antenna above ground.

The Deep Sleep Hotel has taken the title of “world’s deepest hotel” from a suite of rooms in Sweden’s Sala silver mine, located 154m underground.
