On the afternoon of June 18, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with the People's Committee of Nguyen Thai Binh Ward (District 1) to organize the launching ceremony of the national historical relic signboard of the headquarters of Dan Chung newspaper at 43 Le Thi Hong Gam.

This is one of the activities towards the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025) and 50 years of Ho Chi Minh City Press.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Tran Anh Dao - Vice Chairman of Nguyen Thai Binh Ward People's Committee - said that the Dan Chung newspaper office was established in 1938 at 43 Hamelin Street, Saigon (now Le Thi Hong Gam Street).

From 1937-1939, the two General Secretaries of the Indochinese Communist Party, Ha Huy Tap and Nguyen Van Cu, and an editorial board of 7 comrades directed the publication of the Dan Chung newspaper in Saigon.

This is the Party's public mouthpiece, playing the role of promoting the mass movement demanding freedom, democracy, improving life, opposing colonial reactionaries, fascism and war, contributing to the birth of the Indochina Democratic Front.

Although it only operated for a little over a year before being ordered closed by the French colonial government on September 7, 1939, the newspaper left a profound mark in the history of revolutionary journalism.

The headquarters of Dan Chung newspaper was ranked as a national historical relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on November 16, 1988.

Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Party cell secretary of Ward 9, a long-time resident of the ward - shared his honor when he learned that this place used to be the operating address of two revolutionary newspapers, Le Peuple and Dan Chung .

“We always remind each other to protect relics as part of our homeland's memory and pass on the tradition to the younger generation,” he said.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Nguyen Thai Binh Ward renovated and installed a new introduction board to the relic, contributing to preserving and promoting historical values, while raising public awareness of the role of revolutionary journalism in the struggle for national independence.
