Responding to the Peak Month for Prevention of Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission in 2023, from May 20 to June 2, the Provincial Center for Disease Control organized mobile communication on prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission in districts and cities in the province.
Mother-to-child transmission of HIV is one of the three main ways of transmitting HIV/AIDS, with the risk of transmission from mother to child being 25-40%. However, if the mother is diagnosed early and treated effectively, the rate of transmission from mother to child is only 2-6%, or even 0%. Therefore, preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV is one of the important solutions contributing to significantly reducing the rate of children born with HIV infection from their mothers.
The peak month for preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV in 2023 will be implemented from June 1 to June 30. The propaganda work will focus on the following contents: Benefits of early HIV testing for pregnant women; benefits of early ARV treatment for pregnant women with HIV; benefits of early diagnosis of HIV infection in children born to HIV-infected mothers and early ARV treatment for children diagnosed with HIV infection due to mother-to-child transmission; other infection prevention measures; promotion of HIV testing and counseling services for pregnant women and treatment to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV in the locality.
Through propaganda forms such as mobile, billboards, posters, leaflets, and broadcasts on loudspeakers at densely populated areas..., the communication campaign aims to increase the effectiveness of the mother-to-child HIV program and aim to end HIV/AIDS by 2030 in Vietnam.
Responding to the Peak Month for Prevention of Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission in 2023, the Health sector recommends that all women of childbearing age and pregnant women take the initiative to get tested for HIV. If the disease is detected and treated early, patients can ensure optimal effectiveness in reducing the rate of mother-to-child transmission.
