Comic book 'Fire Remnants' carries the cultural identity of the Vietnamese people

With a love for ancient architecture and Vietnamese costumes, author Lilywiu "breathes" into the comic "Fire Embers" a cultural breath imbued with Vietnamese national identity.

After the successful launch of volume 1 in March 2024, Wings Books - book Kim Dong Publishing House continues to release volume 2 of the Vietnamese comic series Embers by artist Lilywiu, tells the story of faith and vanity, and depicts the passionate youth of the characters.

In volume 1, author Le Loi Thu Dinh (pen name Lilywiu) introduces readers to the setting and characters of the Chu family, as well as the people on the fictional island of Ngoc Nai in the 1930s, when traditional and modern values intersect.

Thien Mai - the second daughter of the Chu family, loves cinema, just returned from France, coincidentally avoiding the boat explosion accident that her uncle had encountered before. Minh Hong - the eldest daughter, is knowledgeable in raising and training spiders. Linh Thoai - the second son, is straightforward, outspoken but also flirtatious and generous. Minh Chau - the eldest son, is passionate about painting, was expelled from the island due to the incident in the past.

A series of mysterious accidents, along with the "game" of inheriting the Chu family temple, make the four brothers become pawns for the adults' ambitions.

In this episode 2, the heir of the Chu family returns to the island after many years of exile, with a past of brilliant but also cruel youth that he experienced. Minh Chau's return brings a series of unusual phenomena that suddenly surround this family...

With a layered storytelling style, meticulous and detailed drawings, and a spirit of respect for cultural and historical materials, Lilywiu brings readers a unique comic work that satisfies both content and form. In addition, with a love for ancient architecture and Vietnamese costumes, Lilywiu "breathes" into The flame of cultural breath carries the strong identity of the Vietnamese people.

Author Lilywiu, whose real name is Le Loi Thu Dinh, is studying Illustration at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg - Germany). She has participated in many art and comic exhibitions and recently received the Standard Award at the Vietnam Manga Festival organized by Indent.

The Embers was developed from a 40-page comic book project. The work was planned to include 7 volumes, volume 1 was quickly reprinted after 2 months of release.
