Billionaire Musk, a staunch Trump supporter during the election, spoke during an appearance on Tucker Carlson's online show, broadcast from his Mar-a-Lago resort on November 6.

Despite initially claiming to be politically neutral, Musk officially switched to supporting Trump after the president-elect's assassination attempt in July. Trump pledged to the Tesla CEO to create a special "government efficiency" committee, called DOGE, headed by the billionaire if he won the election.

Billionaire Musk has invested millions of dollars in support of Mr. Trump. According to media reports, he has donated at least $118 million to the Republican Political Action Committee, a group focused on voter outreach.

Speaking to Carlson, the tech billionaire said he wants to help President-elect Trump make the US government more efficient.

“I would be honored to help the new administration improve efficiency,” Musk said. “We have a huge bureaucracy, we have agencies with overlapping responsibilities… that creates a cost burden, they are hidden costs but they are significant.”

Last month, Mr Musk pledged to help Republicans cut US annual budget spending by “at least $2 trillion” if Mr Trump returns to the White House.

“Your tax dollars are being wasted and the government efficiency commission will fix that,” Musk declared.

The tech billionaire has repeatedly sounded the alarm about US debt. Last week, he warned that the US was on the brink of bankruptcy and would soon go bankrupt if Washington did not rein in its spending.
