In an interview with Novynarnia published on November 27, Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat announced that Ukraine's Patriot air defense system shot down five Russian aircraft in the Bryansk region (Russia) on May 13. The Patriot system, manufactured by the US company Raytheon and supplied to Ukraine, has a range of up to 80 km to intercept targets.

According to Mr. Ihnay, the Russian aircraft shot down included a Su-34 fighter-bomber, a Su-35 multi-role fighter, two Mi-8MTPR-1 air defense helicopters and a Mi-8 helicopter.

"Thanks to unconventional decisive actions, Patriot air defense systems destroyed five aircraft in five minutes at the Bryansk axis, from where they were used to bomb our northern regions with guided bombs," Ihnat said.

According to The New Voice of Ukraine , two Mi-8 military helicopters and two Su-34 and Su-35 aircraft crashed almost simultaneously on May 13 in the Bryansk region, killing the crew. Russian media reported on the incidents, but the Kremlin did not officially comment.

The next day, Mr. Ihnay said that up to three helicopters may have crashed and that a group of Russian planes and helicopters were then flying together to attack settlements in northern Ukraine.

Russia did not immediately comment on Mr. Ihnat’s statement about the incident. According to figures from the Ukrainian Defense Ministry on November 28, Russia has lost 323 military aircraft and 324 helicopters since the beginning of the conflict.
