"Updated information indicates that the enemy lost 96 air-launched cruise missiles as a result of the Ukrainian attack on the Engels-2 air base of the Russian Aerospace Forces on March 20, including due to secondary explosions," the Ukrainian General Staff said on March 27.

According to the Ukrainian military's calculations, Russia plans to use this ammunition for three missile attacks in March and April.

In addition, the attack on aviation fuel storage sites destroyed significant reserves, negatively affecting Russia's ability to sustain combat operations.

Engels-2 is the main base for Russia's strategic aviation. It houses Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3 and Tu-160 bombers as well as FAB guided bombs and cruise missiles.

From this base, Russian bombers have launched large-scale missile attacks on Ukraine since the conflict broke out more than three years ago.

The Ukrainian General Staff said that the explosion at Engels-2 airport on the night of March 19 and early morning of March 20 was the result of a coordinated attack between the Security Service of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine's Countering Disinformation Center, said at the time that Russia's missile arsenal may have been destroyed after the attack.
