Vietnam and the United States hold online ministerial negotiations on reciprocal trade

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien negotiated online with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

On the evening of June 19 (Vietnam time), within the framework of negotiations on the bilateral agreement on reciprocal trade between Vietnam and the United States, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a negotiation session simultaneously with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer online.

The negotiation session took place in an open, goodwill and constructive atmosphere. The Ministers spent time discussing solutions and directions for handling the main outstanding issues in the negotiations between the two countries.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the proposals made by Minister Lutnick and Ambassador Greer to advance the negotiation process. The Minister continued to request the United States to consider areas of interest to Vietnam, including reciprocal tax policies and market access for some of Vietnam's key export groups.

In addition, the Minister emphasized Vietnam's view on wanting to work with the United States to develop harmonious, practical rules of origin that are suitable to the characteristics of the global supply chain, ensuring non-discrimination and creating favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries.

Both Secretary of Commerce Lutnick and Ambassador Greer affirmed the United States' desire and determination to negotiate with Vietnam towards an agreement that suits the interests of both countries.

Minister Lutnick and Ambassador Greer appreciated Vietnam's efforts and goodwill in handling issues of concern to the United States, and believed that these would help the United States consider a reciprocal tax policy appropriate to Vietnam's specific conditions and circumstances.

Both Secretary of Commerce Lutnick and Ambassador Greer affirmed the United States' desire and determination to negotiate with Vietnam towards an agreement that suits the interests of both countries. Ambassador Greer said that the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) will soon complete and send back to Vietnam the necessary documents so that the two sides can focus on discussions towards an outcome that suits the interests of Vietnam and the United States.
