On August 22, Tuoi Tre Online's source said that striker Rafaelson had submitted an application for Vietnamese citizenship to the competent authorities.

In the application, the Brazilian player wrote: “After studying Vietnamese laws on nationality, I voluntarily submit an application to the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to allow me to acquire Vietnamese nationality.

Purpose of applying for Vietnamese citizenship: Desire to contribute to the Vietnam national football team.

If I am granted Vietnamese citizenship, I would like to take the Vietnamese name NGUYEN XUAN SON.

If granted Vietnamese citizenship, I pledge to be loyal to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and to fully perform the obligations of a Vietnamese citizen as prescribed by the Constitution and laws of Vietnam."

In addition, Rafaelson also expressed his desire to retain his Brazilian nationality to ensure his rights and benefits.

Currently, Brazilian law accepts citizens with multiple nationalities.

Striker Rafaelson was born in 1997 in Pirapemas, Maranhao, Brazil.

In 2020, he moved to play football in Vietnam for Nam Dinh Club and then played for Da Nang and Binh Dinh before returning to the Thanh Nam team in the 2023-2024 season.

In the 2023-2024 V-League season, Rafaelson made a great contribution to helping Nam Dinh Club win the V-League championship. He personally won a hat-trick of awards for Best Player, Top Scorer (31 goals/24 matches) and Best V-League Goal.

In the 2023 season, he also won the Golden Boot award with 16 goals for Binh Dinh Club.

Over the past year, Rafaelson has repeatedly expressed his desire to become a Vietnamese citizen to contribute to the national team.
