On July 3, the football world was plunged into grief after news broke that Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota had died in a traffic accident. Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were involved in an accident in Zamora, Spain at 0:30 a.m. Thursday (local time).

According to the initial investigation by local authorities, the Lamborghini owned by Jota and his brother had a flat tire while overtaking another car at very high speed. The incident happened so quickly that the car lost control, went off the road and flipped several times before bursting into flames.

Jota and his brother died at the scene. Emergency services were called but were unable to save the brothers. Their identities were only confirmed by the car's license plate.
