In order to reduce pressure on parents after suffering heavy damage due to Typhoon Yagi, Quang Ninh and Yen Bai provinces have decided to exempt tuition fees for students in the entire province for the 2024-2025 school year.

In response to the severe damage caused by Typhoon Yagi, today, September 30, the People's Council of Yen Bai province met and passed a resolution on tuition support policies for preschool children, students, and trainees studying at public educational institutions in the national education system in Yen Bai province for the 2024-2025 school year. The support level is equal to the tuition fee level prescribed by the Provincial People's Council.

The People's Council of Quang Ninh province has also decided to support tuition fees for preschool children, primary school students, and students studying general education programs at educational institutions in the province (except for students who have enjoyed tuition support policies according to provincial regulations and primary school students in public schools).

The support level is 100% of the tuition fee payable for the 2024-2025 school year. Private primary school students are supported at the same level as private secondary school students in the same region applying the tuition fee. The support period is equal to the actual number of months of study in the 2024-2025 school year of the supported student but not exceeding 9 months.

With this policy, nearly 244 thousand students in Quang Ninh will receive support. The estimated support budget for the 2024-2025 school year is about 167 billion VND from the provincial budget in 2024 and 2025.

The Ministry of Education and Training has requested the People's Committees of provinces and cities to consider supporting and exempting tuition fees for preschool children and primary school students affected by storm Yagi.

The Department of Education and Training of Hai Phong and Phu Tho provinces also issued a document requesting educational institutions not to combine fees at one time to reduce pressure on parents after suffering heavy losses due to Typhoon Yagi.

Previously, on September 17, in Resolution 143/NQ-CP, the Government requested the Ministry of Education and Training as well as localities to exempt and reduce tuition fees for students affected by storm No. 3 in the 2024-2025 school year. On September 18, the Ministry of Education and Training also sent a document to provinces and cities across the country requesting exemption and reduction of tuition fees for students./.
