Scientists from the University of California (USA) analyzed and evaluated 47 clinical trials and 13 observational studies from 2000 to 2023. Most of these studies reported on the effects of strawberries on the heart, brain and cancer risk.

Results found that strawberries significantly support heart and brain health by lowering cholesterol, reducing inflammation, and protecting cognitive function.

Specifically, eating 1 - 4 cups of strawberries per day brings remarkable benefits, especially improving cardiovascular health and metabolism, according to the science site Scitech Daily.

Researchers say strawberries are rich in beneficial phytonutrients such as polyphenols and fiber, which help lower bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels and reduce inflammation. This leads to improved overall heart health and better control of cardiovascular risk factors.

They concluded that strawberries are a natural and effective way to reduce cardiovascular risk and slow cognitive decline.

Effects of strawberries on the cardiovascular system

The authors found that eating strawberries daily could have a significant impact on heart health, especially in people at higher risk of heart disease. By improving fat metabolism and reducing inflammation, strawberries may help reduce the risk of heart disease.

Lead author Dr Roberta Holt, from the University of California, said: “Strawberries are rich in heart-healthy phytonutrients. Our review found that regular strawberry consumption not only lowers cholesterol but also helps reduce inflammation, which is a major contributor to heart disease. This means that a cup of strawberries a day could significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.”
