On the morning of September 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association established a preliminary council to consider and award the 3rd "Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts" award.
Artist Vo Minh Lam and Meritorious Artist Tu Suong in the cai luong play "The Legend of Sa Moc" (Song Viet Performance Company Limited)
The art units introduced 20 plays in the following genres: Cai Luong, Hat Boi, Drama, Circus. The preliminary council chaired by People's Artist - Director Tran Ngoc Giau analyzed each work to introduce the works worthy of being awarded by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations to the final round.
Play "Hand of Heaven" (Hoang Thai Thanh Stage)
The awarding of the 3rd "Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts" award is one of the activities in the action program (No. 45-CTrHD/TU dated December 23, 2008) of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, and the Resolution (No. 23-NQ/TW) of the Politburo (10th tenure) on the goal of continuing to build and develop literature and arts in the new period (creating many literary and artistic works of high ideological and artistic value, both having an orientation effect and meeting the increasingly high cultural and spiritual needs of the people); promptly honoring typical authors and works with profound influence on the masses; encouraging and motivating artists to promote their creative dynamism to contribute to the construction and development of the city and the country.

The list of introductions from the art units participating in the preliminary round includes: circus play "Cha Rong Me Tien" (Phuong Nam Art Theater), reformed play "Dam Me Va Quyen Le" (Kim Ngan Entertainment Company Limited), play "Thanh Pho Tinh Yeu" (Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theater), opera play "Chiec Ao Thien Nga", opera play "Le Cong Ky An" (Ho Chi Minh City Art Theater), reformed play "Dem truong ngay hoang dao", "Truyen thuy che Sa Moc" (Song Viet Performance Organization Company Limited), reformed play "Cau ho dat me", Thanh pho buoi minh", "Nhan danh cong ly" (Tran Huu Trang Theater).
Circus "Dragon Father, Fairy Mother" (Southern Arts Theater)
Children's plays "My Little Angel", "Making Friends with the Sky" (Hong Hac Stage), spoken plays "Rang Tram Bau" (Trinh Kim Chi Stage), "Canh Dong Blazing Fire", "Nang Khong" (Quoc Thao Drama Stage), "Justice Like the Sun" (Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater), "Ban Tay Cua Thien" (Hoang Thai Thanh Drama Stage), "Khoc Trung Troi Xanh" (Su Viet Joint Stock Company Stage), plays "Cau Ho Dat Me" (Phieu Linh TCBD Company Limited, Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture), "Ngoc Gio" (Sai Gon Phang Advertising Media Service Joint Stock Company).
Play "Le Cong Ky An" (Ho Chi Minh City Opera House)
People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc commented: "The good news is that the plays nominated for the preliminary round have all been performed to a large audience. Some plays won gold and silver medals at national professional festivals and performances. Some plays were staged for propaganda purposes during major holidays in the city but then became regular performances, with tickets sold out for all shows."
