On July 21, the Hue City Department of Health said that the department's inspection team had collected four samples of food ingredients and sent them to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang for testing to find the cause of a series of food poisoning cases after attending a local funeral.

As of this morning, July 21, Hue Central Hospital, Branch 2, continued to receive 2 more patients (who attended the same funeral) who were hospitalized with a diagnosis of acute gastroenteritis, suspected of being caused by food poisoning. To date, a total of 21 people have been hospitalized with suspected poisoning after eating at the funeral.
As Thanh Nien reported, on July 19, about 50 people attended a funeral at a family in Phong Dinh ward (a merger of Phong Hoa, Phong Binh, Phong Chuong communes of the old Phong Dien town). By the morning of July 20, many people began to show symptoms of stomachache, nausea, fever, etc., and were taken by their families to Hue Central Hospital, branch 2, for treatment.

By late afternoon on July 20, 19 people were hospitalized, including both men and women, aged 54 to 84 (all residing in Phong Dinh ward, Hue city).
Through examination, doctors diagnosed all 19 patients with acute gastroenteritis due to food poisoning. Among them, 1 elderly female patient suffered from septic shock and is being closely monitored in the Intensive Care Unit with symptoms of slow response, intermittent abdominal pain, and fatigue.
Initially, the patients’ relatives said that the dishes at the party were cooked by the X.D. restaurant. The menu included: jellyfish salad - shrimp, steamed squid, grilled chicken, grouper hotpot, yogurt. Most of the hospitalized cases had eaten all the dishes.
Immediately after learning about the incident, the Hue City Health Department ordered the collection of samples from a number of patients for testing to find the cause. At the same time, it directed the Food Safety Department, the Center for Disease Control, and Phong Dien Medical Center to coordinate in investigating and verifying the incident.
