The conference, held on 16-19 May, aims to promote international collaboration as an innovation tool for transforming higher education institutions, through a focus on a range of topics – including sharing resources and models of best practices in programme and degree design, experiential learning and inclusive education .

75 young leaders out of more than 900 applicants from 10 ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste, who are lecturers, managers, policy makers and advocates, consultants and young professionals working in higher education institutions, government agencies, non-governmental organizations and social organizations related to the higher education sector were selected to participate in the workshop.

Throughout the four-day program, participants will have the opportunity to connect and be inspired by guest speakers, facilitators, mentors, and participants through a variety of activities such as plenary sessions, small group discussions, interactive group work, design thinking workshops, networking events, field trips, and a sponsorship competition.

The competition will help participants launch initiatives to build partnerships between higher education institutions in the region, through supporting three seed funding funds for three selected project teams, worth USD 3,000.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Knapper emphasized the US commitment to working with ASEAN countries and Timor-Leste to promote education initiatives in the region. “The US Mission to Vietnam supports the conference to promote innovation in higher education by encouraging higher education institutions to support each other to enhance regional integration. Education is an important priority for the US Government and countries in the region because it is the field of training and equipping the young leaders of the future,” Ambassador Knapper said.
