After three years of implementation, the Project "Promoting sustainable production and trade of Vietnamese pepper" has contributed to improving the lives of nearly 8,000 pepper farming households on an area of 8,500 hectares in the Central Highlands.

Some of the key results of the project include: a 60% increase in pepper volume in compliance with pesticide residue requirements of high-end markets and an estimated USD 600 million in certified pepper exports in 2023; 50% of pesticide dealers signing a commitment to comply with pesticide management regulations.

In addition, the project has contributed to reducing 98% of the use of banned pesticides, especially herbicides, fungicides and insecticides in the context of the market warning of high residue levels in the project implementation area; mobilizing the participation of 12 leading pepper production and export enterprises and cooperatives in Vietnam in the project; 14 agricultural service teams were established to provide agricultural services, consulting and monitoring farmers' responsible use of chemicals.

Over the past three years, 160 training courses have been organized for farmers. Farmers have been provided with knowledge and guidance on good agricultural practices, integrated pest management, plant health management, and mulch management, contributing to reducing inputs, thereby reducing carbon emissions by 10% and irrigation water use by 17%.

It is known that this project is funded by the European Union and IDH Organization, implemented in the period 2021 - 2023 in three provinces of Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Gia Lai.

The project aims to support Vietnam in achieving benefits from bilateral trade commitments, focusing on the implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), promoting the export of high-quality products and services from Vietnam to the EU, and helping pepper production and processing enterprises increase sustainable output.

In the coming time, IDH will increase the mobilization of investment participation from the public and private sectors to replicate the project results.
