According to Sportico, Michael Jordan - the "king" of the National Basketball Association (NBA) - is the leader of the list of the richest athletes in the world with an estimated fortune of up to 4.15 billion USD .

With six NBA championships and an influence far beyond basketball, Jordan is an irreplaceable icon in global sports.

Coming in second is Tiger Woods, the golf legend, with a fortune of $2.79 billion . Woods has won 82 PGA Tour titles - equal to Sam Snead's record - and 15 major titles, spanning more than two decades.

Cristiano Ronaldo, a global football icon, is third with $2.23 billion . The Portuguese superstar has won five Ballon d'Ors, played for prestigious clubs and has a record number of followers on social media. This makes him one of the most expensive endorsement faces on the planet.
