Despite being criticized when it was launched, Germany's pink and purple kit has become a prominent fashion icon at Euro 2024. It brings vibrant colors to the home team's matches.

The brightly colored kit is selling as well as the German team's traditional white kit, Adidas spokesman Stefan Pursche said, according to AFP. Normally, four-fifths of the kits sold are home kits. But that has changed since the pink kit was launched. Initially, many people were skeptical about the bold color of the kit. There were even homophobic or sexist comments on social media. However, the majority of fans have warmly welcomed the pink kit. According to an Adidas spokesman, the huge demand has made the pink kit "the best-selling away kit in history" for the German team. It has surpassed the iconic green or black kits that came before. "I think it was brave to choose such a color," Alex Mueller, 39, told AFP ahead of Germany's match with Switzerland in the early morning of June 24 (Vietnam time).
The shirt was sold out on Adidas' website on June 24. A new batch will be available the following morning. Most Adidas stores in Germany are also almost out of stock, with only a few shirts in very small or children's sizes left. Leo, 17, told AFP outside the Adidas store in Frankfurt that he would take the four pink shirts he had just bought to "resell on eBay" for a higher price. "These are the hardest to get, so I can make a lot of profit from them," Leo said. Sales of the pink shirts could continue to rise if Germany progress further at Euro 2024. Julian Nagelsmann's team currently top Group A after a 1-1 draw with Switzerland. However, the pink kit could be one of the last Adidas kits for Germany in decades. That's because Adidas' American rival, Nike, has won a contract to sponsor the German team's uniforms from 2027.
