Argentina's Meat Industry Regulatory Chamber (CICCRA) estimates that in the first quarter of 2024, beef consumption in Argentina was 17.6% lower than the same period last year, marking a three-decade low with an average per capita consumption of less than 10kg/year.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Argentina is among the countries with the largest number of meat-eating people in the world. Until recently, each person in this country consumed nearly 50kg of meat per year.

Argentina is facing an economic crisis that has reduced people's purchasing power. The country's annual inflation rate is now more than 280%. Beef prices increased 278% in March compared to the same month last year.

According to CICCRA, beef consumption in Argentina has been decreasing year by year, while consumption of cheaper meats such as pork and poultry has doubled over the past 30 years.
