On November 4, Chau Duc District Police said that recently, there have been many cases of workers, especially minors, being lured by strangers to Cambodia to do "light work with high salaries".

"In essence, this is an activity of labor exploitation, property extortion, and even death threats to force the victim's family to pay a huge ransom to be released back to their country. Because of their gullibility, many victims have fallen into the trap," said a leader of Chau Duc District Police.

The family of a victim in Chau Duc district provided Thanh Nien reporters with information about their relative who was tricked into going to Cambodia.

According to Chau Duc District Police, the method of the group of suspected scammers is to form an organized crime ring, operating in Vietnam and Cambodia, and dividing the work into different stages. The scammers use social networks such as Facebook, Zalo, Telegram, etc. to post advertisements to recruit workers with the promise of "easy work, high salary".

The victims that the scammers target are people between the ages of 18 and 35. When the victims register for a job, the group entices, entices, guides, and helps pick up the person, helps with paperwork, and then takes them to the Cambodian border gate to complete exit procedures or through other unofficial channels.

Upon arriving in Cambodia, the victims were taken to facilities and organizations that conduct fraudulent activities such as online gambling, virtual currency trading, etc. in cyberspace. During the work process, the victims were closely guarded, not allowed to travel or contact the outside world, and forced to work 12-16 hours a day.

"If the victims do not comply with the scammers' demands, they will be beaten, starved, locked up, or asked to call their families to pay a ransom of 3,000 - 20,000 USD before being allowed to return home. In many cases, those who escaped without paying the ransom will be beaten or sold to another company when they are caught," said the leader of Chau Duc District Police.

Chau Duc District Police warned people not to listen to recruitment information on websites offering "easy work, high salary". People who want to work abroad should go to legal job introduction centers for specific instructions.
