Bentiu is the most disadvantaged area in South Sudan. Among them, girls, the elderly and women are the most vulnerable groups, in need of the most care and protection.

The United Nations always appreciates the role of the peacekeeping mission of the forces participating here, especially the volunteer activities that contribute to the community and care for vulnerable people.

Dr. Nguyen Ha Ngoc - Director of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 - said that in response to the week of action for women and children on International Women's Day, March 8, the hospital proactively proposed to other units and agencies in the Bentiu subdivision to organize a volunteer trip to honor and care for women and girls in Bentiu (South Sudan).

The volunteer trip received the response and participation of many individual officers at the mission office block and Level 1 Hospital from the Mongolian Defense Battalion and especially with local medical doctors.

About 50 women received general health check-ups, gynecological examinations, general ultrasounds, obstetric ultrasounds, reproductive health consultations, and advice on how to detect early abnormalities and common gynecological diseases.

In particular, the doctors and nurses instructed the women on how to properly care for and clean their gynecological areas. After the examination, the women received gifts including shirts, slippers, hats, and feminine hygiene solutions.

During the screening process, doctors discovered many diseases that patients did not know about, helping patients have more information about their disease and further treatment directions.

Dr. Huynh Thi Thanh Giang - in charge of obstetric examination and consultation - said that the screening discovered two cases of gallbladder stones and ureteral stones.

In particular, one early pregnancy was detected (the pregnant woman did not know she was pregnant), and one pregnancy was monitored for progression. Both cases were scheduled for follow-up examination, detailed instructions, and recommendations for further treatment for the patient.

Dr. Giang shared that the examination activities of the Vietnamese "blue beret" doctors were highly appreciated by patients, their families, and local organizations. In particular, many local people were excited to take photos with them because it was the first time they had come into contact with and learned about the country and people of Vietnam through the hospital's examination team.

Major Tran Thuan Trang - head nurse of the hospital - said that participating in this activity, the women of the unit also organized gift wrapping and mixed 50 liters of milk tea to give to local people who came to visit.

"Local people were excited and welcomed the gift and gave us a lot of compliments. Some expressed their wish that Level 2 Field Hospital No. 5 would return soon," Trang shared.
