Doctors have performed a miracle surgery and successfully reattached the head of a boy who was "almost severed from his neck"

Doctors said Hassan's head was almost completely severed from his neck, according to the New York Post .

Dr Ohad Einav, the orthopedic surgeon who performed the surgery, said doctors had to use "fixation plates in the damaged area".

"The victim was saved thanks to the medical team and the most advanced technology in surgery," said Dr. Einav.

Dr. Einav and the surgical team said that Hassan had an expected survival rate of only 50% and that his recovery was truly a miracle, according to i24 News .

The surgery took place in June, but doctors waited a month to announce the results.

Hassan has now been discharged from hospital with a neck brace and doctors will continue to monitor his recovery.

The boy was riding his bike when he was hit by a car.

According to Israel's TPS news agency, Hassan's father did not leave his son's hospital bed during his recovery, constantly thanking the medical staff.

Professor Marc Siegel, a doctor at NYU Langone Medical Center (USA), said that the surgery was "wonderful", and could only be performed if the major blood vessels remained intact.

It's important to maintain blood flow to the brain, says Marc Siegel, as the main blood vessel may not have been ruptured.
