Oregon, USA will soon establish a Vietnamese cultural center

At a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the afternoon of September 18 (local time), a representative of the leader of the state of Oregon (USA) said that a Vietnamese cultural center will soon be established in Oregon.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received a delegation of politicians and businesses from Oregon state led by Mr. Vince Porter, Chief of the Office of Economic Development of Oregon state.

At the reception for a delegation of politicians and businesses from Oregon, led by Mr. Vince Porter, Chief of the Office of Economic Development of Oregon, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his delight at the positive developments in the relationship between Vietnam and Oregon in recent times.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam wishes to further promote relations with Oregon, one of the pioneering states at the gateway to the western United States, in the coming time to match the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace, Cooperation and Sustainable Development that the two countries have just established during the visit to Vietnam by US President Joe Biden.

Emphasizing that the upgrading of Vietnam and the United States to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership demonstrates the efforts of both sides and localities of the two countries, including the state of Oregon, the Prime Minister hopes that the two sides will continue to strengthen political relations and expand exchanges through party, state, and people-to-people channels.

As a state with many large companies and corporations investing in Vietnam and a successful Vietnamese community, the Prime Minister encouraged Oregon and Vietnam to promote economic, trade and investment relations to effectively exploit the potential and room for cooperation; wishing to strengthen cooperation in education and training, science and technology, innovation, training of high-quality human resources as well as in a number of emerging industries such as digital transformation, energy conversion, climate change response, circular economy, and sharing economy.

The head of government also hopes that Oregon will welcome Vietnamese exports such as footwear and garments and that the two sides will expand tourism cooperation. This is also the way the two sides together realize the goals of upgrading relations.

The Prime Minister said that the increasing number of Vietnamese people being elected to leadership positions in Oregon is a testament to the integration and contributions of the Vietnamese community, affirming the position of Vietnamese people in the United States.

The head of government hopes Oregon will welcome Vietnamese exports.

Oregon State Economic Development Office Chief Vince Porter and the delegation thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to meet, saying that the relationship between Oregon and Vietnam has developed strongly on the basis of the Letter of Intent on cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the state of Oregon, including the success of Oregon Governor Katherine Brown's visit to Vietnam in November 2022.

Mr. Vince Porter respectfully reiterated the invitation of the new Governor of Oregon Tina Kotek to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to visit Oregon soon and affirmed that Oregon wants to strengthen and expand relations with Vietnam, especially relations with Vietnamese localities. The Oregon delegation congratulated the two countries on upgrading their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and pledged to further deepen the cooperative relationship between the two sides.

The Oregon representative expressed his delight that Vietnam is among the top 10 largest trading partners of the state, many Vietnamese students are studying and working at local universities, and world-class businesses such as Intel, Nike, Columbia, Sportwear... headquartered in Oregon are doing successful business in Vietnam.

The delegation also said that there are currently five Vietnamese-American congressmen in the Oregon House of Representatives and a judge of Vietnamese origin, affirming the position and role of the Vietnamese community in the country and wishing to further promote cultural exchange and cooperation between the two sides.

Oregon state representative said that a Vietnamese cultural center will soon be established in Oregon.

The Prime Minister thanked Governor Tina Kotek for her invitation and expressed his hope to soon have the opportunity to visit the state of Oregon.
