Bayern Munich set record with 10-0 win

In the opening match of Group C, Bayern Munich showed their absolute strength against New Zealand representative Auckland City. Coach Vincent Kompany's team scored 10 goals without reply - the biggest victory in the history of the tournament.

Kingsley Coman opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a header from Joshua Kimmich's corner. Just a few minutes later, Bayern scored three goals in three minutes thanks to Sacha Boey, Michael Olise and another goal from Coman.

Thomas Müller, in fine form, scored twice, including the winner to make it 5-0 before half-time. Then Jamal Musiala – returning from injury – came off the bench and quickly netted a hat-trick, including a penalty and two classy touches.

Despite the heavy defeat, Auckland City coach Ivan Vicelich still praised his players' fighting spirit: "We come from an amateur environment but to play on a big stage is a dream."

PSG crush Atlético Madrid in European derby

No less impressive, PSG had an excellent performance against Atlético Madrid at the Rose Bowl (Pasadena, USA), winning 4-0 in a match considered an internal European "derby".

Fabián Ruiz opened the scoring for PSG with a long-range shot in the 19th minute. Before the end of the first half, Vitinha took advantage of a quick counter-attack to score the second after Griezmann missed.

In the 57th minute, Julián Álvarez put the ball in the PSG net but the goal was ruled out after VAR determined that Koke had committed an earlier foul. Clement Lenglet was then sent off, while Alexander Sørloth missed an incredible chance to score from close range.

At the end of the match, two substitutes – Senny Mayulu and Lee Kang-in – scored in the 87th minute and in stoppage time respectively, completing an impressive victory for the team from the French capital.

The standings and waiting for the big battle

After the first round, Bayern Munich will face Boca Juniors (Argentina) in the next round of Group C, while PSG will meet Botafogo (Brazil) again in a match that promises to be dramatic in Group D.

Bayern coach Kompany was excited: “The match against Boca Juniors will be the highlight of the group stage. A team with a rich European tradition against a team with a traditional South American tradition – everyone who loves football will want to watch.”

Despite missing star Ousmane Dembélé due to injury, PSG still controlled 74% of the ball and had 11 shots on target – a clear testament to the strength of the squad's depth and the flexibility of coach Luis Enrique.
