On June 25, the leader of the 3 specialized departments (eyes, ears, nose and throat) of Can Tho Children's Hospital said that after a period of emergency treatment and monitoring for the dog bite wound, the boy NPH (24 months old, in Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province) was discharged from the hospital.
According to the family, baby H. was bitten by his uncle's dog when he went to visit his uncle. As soon as he was discovered, he was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment and then transferred to Can Tho Children's Hospital for emergency treatment.
At the emergency department, the examining doctors recorded a very complicated wound on the head, over 10cm long, exposing the skull and brain, and severe abrasions on the head and face. The team treated the wound and sutured it. After that, they advised timely rabies and tetanus vaccination.
From this incident, doctors warn about all kinds of accidents for children, especially accidents caused by dog and pet bites. Especially families with dogs, pets... when there are small children in the house. Dog bite accidents not only cause physical injuries but also threaten the lives of children if not handled promptly.
When raising dogs, it is most important to vaccinate them against rabies regularly. When children come to the house, they should be locked up or tied up carefully. Teach children not to tease, hug, or approach dogs or pets while they are eating or sleeping; children should not be left alone with dogs.
In case of dog or animal bites, wash the bite immediately with soap, then take to the hospital as soon as possible. Absolutely do not apply leaves or folk remedies based on experience and do not treat at home.
After going to the hospital to treat the wound, the child needs to be fully vaccinated against rabies and tetanus, and the dog's health should be monitored at home for 10 days.
