The incident occurred as the group of diplomats were on their way to a tourist area in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan and is home to militant groups, including the Pakistani Taliban.

The convoy was passing through the tourist spot and resort of Malam Jabba hills in Swat district when it was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED). No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry confirmed that a police reconnaissance vehicle was hit by an explosive device. Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack and paid tribute to the policemen who carried out their duties.

Regarding the incident, on September 26, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said: “According to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Pakistan, on September 22, 2024, a convoy of vehicles including police escort vehicles and vehicles of ambassadors of 12 countries, including the Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan, attending the Swat Tourism Development Forum was hit by a homemade explosive device in the area of Khybe Pakhtunkhwa state (Pakistan), killing one police officer and injuring four others. The vehicles carrying the ambassadors of the countries are safe.”

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also affirmed that Vietnam strongly condemns the attack and would like to send condolences to the families of the victims in this attack. At the same time, he hoped that Pakistani authorities would ensure security and safety for diplomatic agencies and foreign communities, including Vietnamese, living, studying and working in the country.
