In total, the US swimming team won 9 gold medals (11 silver, 9 bronze) compared to 8 gold medals (6 silver, 6 bronze) of Australia at the tournament, thereby affirming its dominance despite the challenges.

This victory also marked the 17th consecutive time they have done this since 1991. This is also the 12th time in the last 13 tournaments that the US has had the most gold medals.

However, the victory was not easy. Most of the 47 American athletes were affected by an acute stomach virus before and during the tournament.

“I don’t think anyone really understands what the team went through unless you’ve been on this journey. The challenges are unbelievable. When you have guys losing 15 pounds or 20 pounds, that’s a lot of weight and they persevered through it,” said Greg Meehan, USA Swimming’s executive director.

Of the 29 medals won by the U.S. swimming team, 20 came from women's events. American swimmers won at least one medal in 14 of the 17 individual events.

In contrast, the US men won only one gold medal thanks to Luca Urlando in the 200m butterfly, their lowest achievement at a world championship.

Despite the difficulties, the American swimmers still created historic moments. On the final day of competition, the American women's team broke their own world record in the 4x100m medley relay with a time of 3 minutes, 49.34 seconds.

The lineup included Regan Smith, Kate Douglass, Gretchen Walsh (with the fastest butterfly in history) and Torri Huske.

In the men's 4x100m medley relay, Jack Alexy also had the second fastest final freestyle in history (45.95 seconds), helping the US team win the bronze medal.

In addition, Laon Marchand (France) also became the first person to dominate both the 200m and 400m individual medley events in three consecutive world championships. And 18-year-old swimmer McIntosh (Canada) made a record of 4 gold medals.
