250 kg bomb lying under the road

Ha Tinh While excavating land to build a road in Xuan Thanh commune, Nghi Xuan district, workers discovered a 250 kg bomb, lying more than a meter above the ground.

The bomb was found on the morning of August 28, under the ground of an internal road in Xuan Thanh commune. The authorities then sent people to put up signs, guard the scene, and prohibit people from approaching.

On the same afternoon, the Military Command of Ha Tinh province sent people to bring the 250 kg bomb, about 50 cm in diameter and more than 1.6 m long, to the ground, then transferred it to the training ground in Ngoc Son commune, Thach Ha district to detonate.

The bomb was identified as a penetration type, left over from the war, the shell was rusted, the serial number was no longer visible.

During the war years, many districts in Ha Tinh, including Nghi Xuan, suffered thousands of bombs and mines. After peace was restored, authorities cleared all explosives, but some remained underground.
