In the film, Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes - a legendary Formula 1 racer who was forced to leave the track after a serious accident. Years later, he is invited back by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (played by Javier Bardem), now the owner of a racing team on the brink of bankruptcy. Faced with a last chance to redeem himself and prove his worth, Sonny teams up with young racer Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) on a pressure-filled journey where the past, speed and competition always lurk.

Brad Pitt underwent special training to drive on the track himself, and received a salary of up to 30 million USD, the highest in his film career.
