Measuring 43.62mm long, 33.76mm wide, 12.87mm thick, and weighing 39.57g, the statue’s body is shaped like a turtle shell. Although the upper part of the shell has been worn away, it is not difficult to see that this part of the shell is decorated with two sets of crescent-shaped grooves. Photo: @Suffolk County Council.
The statue has a rudimentary head protruding from the top of the shell, and four feet protruding from either side. The left front leg appears to have long since been broken off, with only a short piece remaining. There is also a small tail on the lower edge. Photo: @Suffolk County Council. This turtle statue has a flat base, with no signs of it ever being fixed, suggesting it is a freestanding statue. Photo: @Suffolk County Council. Speaking about the meaning of this strange object, experts from Suffolk County Council said that turtles are often associated with the god Mercury in ancient Roman culture, and Mercury is often seen with turtles in symbols. Mercury is the god of commerce, communication and travel. Photo: @Suffolk County Council.
