According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE discussed the latest developments in Gaza and reviewed the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar and the United States during a video conference on June 3. The foreign ministers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE affirmed their support for the mediation efforts of Egypt, Qatar and the United States to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, release hostages and detainees, and ensure adequate humanitarian aid for the people of the Palestinian Mediterranean Strip.

The foreign ministers of Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE stressed the urgency of stopping military operations in Gaza, ending the humanitarian crisis there and ensuring the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes, while demanding the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.

The Arab foreign ministers also highlighted the need to begin the reconstruction of Gaza with a comprehensive plan with a clear roadmap and binding commitments, as well as to implement the two-state solution in accordance with relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). On the issue of implementing the two-state solution, the Arab foreign ministers affirmed that the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital is the path to achieving security and peace for the peoples of the region.

On May 7, Israel launched a ground offensive into the southern Gaza city of Rafah and seized the Rafah border crossing on the Palestinian side. Since then, no trucks carrying humanitarian aid have entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing. Last week, Egypt agreed with the United States to temporarily transport humanitarian aid through the Karm Abu Salem border crossing until Israel withdraws from the Rafah crossing on the Gaza side.

The latest round of Gaza ceasefire talks held in Cairo in early May 2024 ended without reaching an agreement. Jordan recently announced that it would join Egypt and the United Nations (UN) in holding an emergency international conference on June 11 to discuss solutions to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
