According to police at the scene, the bomb explosion that occurred in Tel Aviv on the night of August 18 killed the bomber and injured a passerby.

In its statement, the Jihad group added that its "martyrdom activities" in Israel would continue as long as "the occupation's massacres and assassination policies continue," referring to Israel's offensive in Gaza and the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31.

The bombing in Tel Aviv on August 18 occurred about an hour after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Tel Aviv to push for a ceasefire in Gaza to end the 10-month war between Israel and Hamas.

The urgency of a ceasefire has grown amid concerns of escalation across the region. Iran has threatened to retaliate against Israel after the assassination of Haniyeh.
