TPO - Despite deploying a large number of personnel at the border areas, German police have not been able to completely prevent the wave of illegal immigration into the country. EURO 2024 has only started for a few days but thousands of cases have already been detected by the police.

More than 20,000 German police officers will be deployed during EURO 2024.

During border checks, German federal police detected 1,400 people entering the country illegally before the tournament began. Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser told Bild am Sonntag that 900 people were prevented from entering the country between June 7 and 13. Of those, 173 arrest warrants were issued.

“This shows that our measures are working. The aim is to identify and prevent violent crimes early,” said Minister Faeser.

According to the minister, among those arrested, the police have filtered out 34 smugglers, besides many people with political motives. In the coming time, this number will increase when illegal immigrants try to join the crowd to the stadiums to watch EURO.

All of this shows the difficulties that German police are facing during this year's EURO. According to European media, the total number of illegal immigrants entering Germany may not be as high as last year's peak (more than 6,000 cases), but it still brings headaches to the authorities.

As EURO 2024 approaches, the number of illegal migrants entering Germany is increasing, while German police are struggling to allocate forces. Typically, in the past, they mainly checked the border areas with Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria... But now, they have to increase forces at the borders with Denmark, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg - where there were no checks before. In addition, visitors from the Schengen area may be checked at airports and ports.

22,000 federal police will patrol every day during EURO 2024. These measures are aimed at preventing violent crime and preventing the entry of illegal migrants. The month of the finals is probably the most stressful month for the host country's police.
