In particular, tourism development cooperation is a prominent area of cooperation between the two localities. Ban Gioc-Detian landscape area is considered a model for green tourism and cross-border tourism between the two countries; the "Mountains and Rivers Connected in One Strip" tourist route between Baise City (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region) and Cao Bang City (old); the tourist route between Jingxi City (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region) and Cao Bang Province Border Gate Economic Zone has also opened the door to attract tourists between the two sides.
Ban Gioc-Duc Thien Scenic Area
Since September 2023, a new tourism product has been formed on the Vietnam-China border, the Ban Gioc-Detian Scenic Area. The landscape area was formed with the main highlight being the Ban Gioc-Detian waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world , and many supporting works and services for tourists. Tourists traveling to the Ban Gioc-Detian Scenic Area use passports (no visa required), travel documents, and return within the day.
Comrade Le Quang Tuyen, Deputy Director of Ban Gioc Waterfall Management Board, shared that since its operation, there have been 34,632 tourists exiting, entering, and traveling to visit the landscape between the two countries, of which 27,279 Chinese tourists have exited to Vietnam to visit and experience. Chinese tourists coming to Vietnam are impressed by the beautiful landscape, the cultural identity of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups, the art of Then singing, Tinh lute, and the friendly and hospitable people... Currently, Cao Bang has two international travel companies with 10 tour guides fluent in Chinese ready to serve and guide tourists; on the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region side, there is also a capable and reputable travel company with a team of tour guides fluent in Vietnamese to guide and serve tourists.
Visitors to the Ban Gioc-Duc Thien Scenic Area can immerse themselves in the romantic, poetic, yet majestic space of the Ban Gioc-Duc Thien Waterfall. In the scenic area, the Chinese side has formed a system of shops, restaurants and many quite complete highlight works, bringing visitors interesting experiences. On the Vietnamese side, the natural scenery, cultural identity, and Saigon-Ban Gioc Resort... are factors that hold and attract tourists. Ms. Trieu Anh Hong, a Vietnamese tourist, shared that when visiting the scenic area on the Chinese side, she experienced quite diverse and rich services and admired the romantic, majestic beauty of the Ban Gioc-Duc Thien Waterfall from a new perspective. The Ban Gioc-Duc Thien Scenic Area is a destination worth experiencing and exploring. Tourist Vuong Thai Chan, from China, shared that, looking at Ban Gioc-Duc Thien waterfall from the Vietnamese side, he felt like he was looking at a gentle, floating white silk strip from the sky, falling down to Quay Son river; the white foam also "paints" a majestic, impressive landscape; Vietnamese cultural identity and cuisine also have many attractive, interesting points worth experiencing and exploring.
"Mountains and rivers in one strip" tourist route
Since 2013, based on the talks and signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the two sides, the tourist route between Tinh Tay city and Cao Bang province's border gate economic zone has been put into operation, attracting tens of thousands of tourists to travel, experience and explore tourism products and services between the two countries. In May 2025, in Cao Bang city (old), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Cao Bang province and the Department of Culture, Communications, Sports and Tourism of Bach Sac city signed a memorandum of understanding on cultural and tourism cooperation between the two sides. This tourist route is called "Mountains and rivers connected in one strip". The initial scope of visit (implemented since 2013) is Trung Khanh district (old), Cao Bang province and Tinh Tay city, which will be expanded to Cao Bang city (old) and Bach Sac city. In addition, the two sides also agreed to promote a two-day, one-night tourist route between Na Po district (Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region) and Cao Bang city (old).
In the "Mountains and Rivers Connected One Strip" tourism route, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Cao Bang province and the Department of Culture, Communications, Sports and Tourism of Baise city also promote the deployment and implementation of the cooperation mechanism between the UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Global Geopark (Vietnam) and the UNESCO Lac Nghiep - Phuong Son Global Geopark, Baise, Guangxi, China. At the same time, the two sides also cooperate in researching and building an experiential tourism route connecting the two UNESCO global geoparks, opening up new opportunities to stimulate, promote and develop tourism between the two localities.
Comrade Nguyen Quoc Trung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Cao Bang province, shared that in the first six months of 2025, local tourism continued to flourish, achieving a good growth rate, the tourism industry of Cao Bang province welcomed 1.43 million visitors, equal to 57% of the plan; tourism revenue is estimated at 1,453 billion VND. However, the potential and growth room of Cao Bang tourism industry is still quite large; in which, there is potential for the Chinese tourist market. This is a tourism market with a large number of tourists, financial capacity, and great potential for shopping. Therefore, strengthening cooperation and developing tourism with the locality of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region is one of the focuses to promote tourism development and attract international tourists to Cao Bang.
Comrade Trinh Truong Huy, Vice Chairman of the Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee, shared that the official operation of the Ban Gioc-Duc Thien Scenic Area and the increasingly large number of tourists traveling between the two localities have enhanced tourism cooperation, enhanced friendly exchanges between local people on both sides of the border and the people of the two countries, contributing significantly to promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China to develop and deepen. In the coming time, Cao Bang will continue to strengthen exchanges and promote comprehensive cooperation in many fields with the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; in which, cooperation to promote tourism development is one of the key contents and areas of cooperation.
It is known that Cao Bang province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have implemented a plan to build a friendship monument between the two sides in the Ban Gioc-Detian Scenic Area. When completed, this will be a new highlight in the Ban Gioc-Detian Scenic Area, contributing to promoting tourism development, enhancing exchange, cooperation, friendship, solidarity, and mutual development between the two sides.
