On June 22, Russian Ambassador to Venezuela Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov affirmed that, based on current foreign relations, Caracas has enough opportunities to join the group of leading emerging economies in the world (BRICS - including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

According to the Russian diplomat , partnership platforms such as BRICS Outreach and BRICS Plus are being deployed by the bloc to promote transnational cooperation.

Speaking on Rossiya 24 TV channel, Mr. Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov highlighted the role of the above forms of partnership connection, and believed in the position of BRICS in the international arena.

“There is no doubt that Venezuela will join BRICS in one form or another,” Ambassador Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov said.

Mr. Sergei Melik-Bagdasarov believes that this will be decided by the BRICS member states. Accordingly, all necessary platforms and mechanisms will be developed so that countries with needs and interest in cooperation have the opportunity to access various BRICS instruments.

According to the Russian diplomat, it is no coincidence that many countries, including Venezuela, have shown interest in joining the organization, "because member states cooperate and communicate on an equal and promising basis."

In recent years, BRICS has attracted countries wishing to join, including Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran and Türkiye, in addition to Venezuela.

The next BRICS summit is scheduled to take place in August in South Africa. BRICS, which is currently chaired by South Africa, accounts for more than 20% of global gross domestic product (GDP) and 42% of the world's population.
