Universal's film, starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali, takes viewers to an abandoned island research facility that holds secrets — and genetically mutated dinosaurs.
Meanwhile, " F1: The Movie ," the Apple and Warner Bros. film starring Brad Pitt as a retired Formula 1 driver, rose to fourth place with $6.2 million.
" Smurfs " - the latest film starring the adorable blue creatures and Rihanna as the Smurfs - fell to fifth place after just its second weekend in North America, with $5.4 million in revenue.
