Bridge over 500 billion is about to open to traffic in South Saigon

(Dan Tri) - After more than 1 year of construction, Rach Dia bridge connecting Nha Be district - District 7 is expected to open to traffic next December, helping to reduce traffic congestion in the South Saigon area.

Rach Dia Bridge, connecting Nha Be District and District 7 (HCMC), started construction in July 2023 to replace the old iron bridge on Le Van Luong Street. This bridge, when completed, will become a vital traffic route, enhancing connectivity between the two areas.

After more than a year of construction, Rach Dia Bridge is gradually completed, the final stages are being urgently implemented. According to the plan, the bridge will officially open to traffic in December 2024, expected to solve the traffic congestion in the South Saigon area.

At the construction site on the afternoon of November 13, the main items of the bridge were almost completed. Some tasks such as planting trees, paving bricks on both sides of the approach road, and installing the lighting system are being urgently completed by workers.

According to Mr. Vu Van Phu, project supervision consultant, Rach Dia Bridge is 318m long, 9 to 10.5m wide, with two lanes and a total investment of 513 billion VND. The main items have been completed and are expected to open to traffic in December thanks to the smooth progress of site clearance.

The bridge approach road is 233m long, 14-27m wide, with drainage and lighting systems being completed. People can now travel back and forth under the bridge every day.

Workers are focusing on cleaning and completing the pavement paving and tree planting on both sides of the bridge. This work is expected to be completed in about a week.

Previously, the two banks of Rach Dia were connected by a 3m wide iron bridge, built before 1975. After 50 years of use, the bridge has deteriorated and will be dismantled in December 2023.

Currently, both ends of Rach Dia bridge are fenced off, workers continue to complete sub-items.

The new Rach Dia Bridge will connect Le Van Luong Street directly to Nguyen Van Linh Street, becoming a vital bridge, strengthening the connection between Nha Be District and District 7, helping to reduce the load on Rach Dia 2 Bridge on Nguyen Huu Tho Street, which is often congested during rush hour.
