That was shared by Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - head of the organizing committee of the 2nd National Open Piano Competition (Festival Piano Talent 2025) , at the press conference announcing the competition on September 28 in Hanoi .

The contest is organized by the Vietnam Institute for Educational and Cultural Development with the support of the Department of Grassroots Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), for piano lovers from 5 to 19 years old nationwide.

Piano is no longer a luxury

According to information from the organizing committee, in the first season, the contest attracted more than 1,000 contestants nationwide, including many contestants from distant localities such as Buon Ma Thuot, Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan, Tien Giang , Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Lang Son...

Mr. Tuan told Tuoi Tre Online that 10 years ago, piano was a luxury, usually available in big cities.

Any house with a piano shows that the house is well-off and has access to Western culture.

But now the situation is different. In many provinces and cities, not just Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the number of students studying piano is increasing.

Piano training facilities attract about 200 - 300 students/facility.

"It shows that parents' views have gradually changed, paying attention to the comprehensive mental, physical and aesthetic development of their children. Whether in the city or in the provinces, piano is developing very well," he said.

He added that last season, many families from far away provinces also accompanied their children to compete. Some families flew all the way from Dak Lak to Hanoi.

It is expected that 2,000 candidates nationwide will attend.

The organizers informed that the 2nd National Open Piano Competition has many differences.

In addition to the familiar competition categories (freestyle category, classic category), the competition opens an artist category for contestants who won awards in season 1, as well as students studying professional piano.

The organizers also invited a number of foreign experts to support the contestants before the competition, either in person or via an online platform.

After the competition, in addition to medals and certificates for the contestants, the organizing committee also plans to develop talented individuals and orient them towards professional education.

At the same time, we organize mini concerts, summer camps, talk shows, etc. so that candidates have the opportunity to interact and further develop their abilities.

The 2025 season is expected to attract about 2,000 contestants from across the country.

The 2nd National Open Piano Competition consists of 3 rounds.

In the talent search round , candidates submit their applications online from January 1, 2025 to January 30, 2025.

The semi-finals - the shining round will be held at 3 locations: Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music Concert Hall (from March 1 to 2, 2025), Hue Academy of Music Concert Hall (from March 8 to 9, 2025), Vietnam National Academy of Music Concert Hall, Hanoi (from March 15 to 16, 2025).
