(CLO) The Burkina Faso military government has suddenly fired interim Prime Minister Apollinaire Joachim Kyelem de Tambela and dissolved the entire government, according to a decree issued by the office of military leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré on Friday.
The decree did not specify the reason for the decision to fire Mr. Tambela, who was appointed interim prime minister shortly after Captain Traoré seized power in a coup in September 2022. This was one of many military coups that have occurred in the West African region in recent years.

According to the decree, members of the dissolved government will continue to serve in their roles until a new cabinet is appointed.
Burkina Faso has been fighting Islamist insurgents, including those linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (IS), for nearly a decade. These groups began spreading into Burkina from neighboring Mali.
When he takes power in 2022, Traoré has pledged to improve the security situation compared to previous administrations.
The dismissal of the prime minister and the dissolution of the government could create further instability within Burkina Faso. The new administration will face a dual challenge: improving security and restoring public confidence.
