President Vo Van Thuong proposed that Vietnam and Brunei promote cooperation in four priority areas.

On the afternoon of November 16, in San Francisco, USA, on the occasion of attending the 30th APEC Summit, President Vo Van Thuong met with the Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

On the sidelines of APEC 2023, President Vo Van Thuong met with Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

In a sincere and open atmosphere, the two sides expressed their delight at the development of Vietnam-Brunei relations over the past 30 years since the establishment of relations, becoming Comprehensive Partners in 2019, on the occasion of the King's visit to Vietnam.

President Vo Van Thuong said that the two countries still have a lot of potential and room to deepen their cooperation in a more practical way.

On that basis, the President proposed that the two countries closely coordinate in effectively implementing the Action Program for the Vietnam-Brunei Comprehensive Partnership 2023-2027 with four priority areas: cooperation in oil and gas, chemicals, Halal product production, tourism , and people-to-people exchange. President Vo Van Thuong respectfully invited the King to visit Vietnam again at a suitable time.

Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah congratulated President Vo Van Thuong on his new position, sent his regards to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Vietnamese leaders, and recalled good impressions during his visit to Vietnam in 2019.

The King emphasized that Brunei really values the multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam and in that spirit, agrees with the proposals to strengthen the bilateral relationship in the coming time.

The two sides affirmed that they will continue to coordinate closely at regional and international forums such as the United Nations and APEC, strive to maintain solidarity and promote ASEAN's central role, contributing to building a strong, united and self-reliant ASEAN Community. The two leaders also discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue.
