VTC NewsVTC News12/02/2025

On the afternoon of February 12, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) confirmed that Mr. Yutaka Ikeuchi has become the Technical Supervisor for the Vietnam U17 team. VFF hopes that the Japanese expert will support the Vietnam U17 coaching staff in the 2025 AFC U17 Championship finals.

However, the position of head coach of Vietnam U17 is still a big question mark. Initially, a Japanese expert was rumored to be in the "hot seat". But in early February, with coach Cristiano Roland suddenly fired by Da Nang Club, the Brazilian coach has a chance to return to Vietnam U17. In the qualifying round, Mr. Roland and his students won tickets to the final round at home.

Mr. Yutaka Ikeuchi was appointed by VFF to the position of Technical Supervisory Advisor of the Vietnam U17 team.

In March 2024, the World Football Federation made two major changes when increasing the number of teams participating in the FIFA U17 World Cup to 48. In addition, this tournament will be held annually instead of every two years. After that, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirmed that the top 8 teams in the 2025 AFC U17 Championship will qualify for the World Cup. Vietnam U17 can think about the World Cup dream in the current situation.

This is also the reason why VFF is willing to spend money to invite Mr. Yukuta Ikeuchi to a special position. Mr. Yutaka Ikeuchi was born in 1961 in Aichi, Japan. After graduating from Aichi High School in 1980, he started his football career at Toyota Industries Football Club.

From 1980 to 1996, he played for Fujita Football Club (Shonan Bellmare) and had a stint with the Japan national team from 1981 to 1985.

After finishing his playing career, Mr. Ikeuchi turned to coaching and has made many important contributions to Japanese football. He has served as head coach of Fujita Women's Football Club, coach of Nagoya Grampus Eight's children's and youth teams, coach of Nagoya Grampus Eight's first team, and was also the General Manager of Monolith Football Club.

From 2003 to 2023, Mr. Ikeuchi was a lecturer at the Japan Football Association (JFA) and participated in the training of many generations of young players. He also served as the Director of the JFA Men's Football Academy and Head Coach of the Japan National Men's U15, U16, and U17 teams. Most recently, he was the Head Coach of the JFA Fukushima Academy U15 Team and Director of Wyvern Football Club.

Mr. Ikeuchi holds an “S” coaching license from the Japan Football Association (JFA) and has held many important positions in the JFA, including JFA Tokai Prefectural Coach, JFA Youth Training Deputy Director, and JFA Youth Training Director.
