During the visit, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President To Lam; met with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man. The main topics of the talks and meetings revolved around strengthening economic , trade, education and training, transport, justice, customs and science and technology partnerships. President Putin also witnessed the signing of a series of bilateral cooperation documents in the above-mentioned fields, including the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in Higher Education.

Vietnam has received many positive reviews from experts and international press agencies after President Putin's visit. Commenting on the results of the recent visit, CNN (USA) wrote: "Few countries can successfully welcome the leaders of the United States, China and Russia with the attention of the global media like Vietnam."

CNN also quoted a comment from an expert at the Vietnam Studies Program at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (Singapore): "From Vietnam's perspective, Russia is still an important partner, has a deep historical relationship and plays an important role in Vietnam's defense and security policy." This expert also highly appreciated Vietnam's "ability to maintain a diversified, multilateral foreign policy and pursue an autonomous strategy."

Similarly, the New York Times of the United States said that President Putin’s visit clearly demonstrated Vietnam’s “bamboo diplomacy.” In an interview with the agency, an expert at the International Crisis Group (Belgium) commented: “Vietnam has demonstrated its ability to maintain relationships with all global partners, despite competition and confrontation between world powers.”

Sharing the same view, Mr. Nigel Gould-Davies, former British ambassador to Belarus commented: “Vietnam has shown that it can maintain a very flexible balance in its "bamboo diplomacy". Within a year, it has received visits from the heads of state of the three most powerful countries in the world, which is quite impressive.”

Russia and China appreciate the significance of the visit

Many Chinese experts have particularly responded positively to President Putin’s recent visit. In an interview with the Global Times, Professor Li Haidong of the China Foreign Affairs University said that the trip signals the development of Vietnam-Russia relations, based on the interests of two sovereign nations, and will benefit stability and balance in the region.

Zhao Long, deputy director of the Institute of Global Governance at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, told the Global Times that the visit is a testament to Russia's new foreign policy of strengthening practical cooperation with many countries around the world in energy, food, technology and other areas.
