The Venezuelan government has warned neighboring countries that the visit to Guyana by US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns is a “clear” threat to the stability and peace of the Caribbean and Latin America.
Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez pointed out on March 22 that throughout its history, the CIA has not had a single positive milestone, but has only brought "death and violence."

“Guyana is in flagrant violation of international law and is steadfastly ignoring the Argyle Agreement,” Ms. Rodríguez declared, adding that “Venezuela will not allow itself to be intimidated and will persevere in following a legal and peaceful path.”
According to the Venezuelan Vice President, the CIA Director met with President Irfaan Ali and senior security officials of Guyana to discuss various security and intelligence issues related to Guyana, the Caribbean region and Latin America.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil also considered the CIA chief's visit to Guyana an escalation of provocations against Caracas, in the context of the dispute between the country and Guyana over the Esequibo territory of nearly 160,000 square kilometers.
Previously, on March 21, the Venezuelan National Assembly unanimously passed the Law on the Organization for the Protection of Guayana Esequiba - the name Venezuela calls the disputed territory mentioned above.
