Johann Chua is the player who is rated higher in terms of ranking, but his opponent Ko Pin-yi is in very good form. In the semi-final of Hanoi Open Pool Championship 2024, Ko Pin-yi defeated Jefrey Roda - Johann Chua's compatriot with a score of 11-2.

Johann Chua defeated Ko Pin-yi 13-7 in the final to win the Hanoi Open Pool Championship 2024.

Johann Chua lost game 1 after missing the 8-ball, but he did not lose his composure. He took advantage of Ko Pin-yi's mistake on the 6-ball in game 2 to immediately tie the score at 1-1. After that, Johann Chua won 2 games in a row to lead 3-1.

Ko Pin-yi was in a bad mood after the 7th game. When the score was 4-2 in favor of Johann Chua, the Korean player tried to hide the cue ball but left many openings. Johann Chua won the cue ball back, successfully pushed the 5th ball and then the remaining balls. Excited after the easy game, the Filipino player won in a row to raise the score to 7-2.

Ko Pin-yi tried to catch up and at one point reduced the score to 7-8, but Johann Chua played solidly and re-established a 4-point lead, raising the score to 11-7.

Ko Pin-yi's hopes were dashed in the 19th game. From a seemingly easy 9-ball situation, the world's 13th-ranked player unexpectedly missed, giving the game to Johann Chua. The Filipino player accepted Ko Pin-yi's gift, raising the score to 12-7, before closing the match at 13-7.

After successfully executing the final shot, Johann Chua jumped on the table in joy, because he had just won the first WNT Major title of his career.

This is the biggest achievement of Johann's career so far. He will receive the Hanoi Open Pool Championship 2024 trophy from the organizers and pocket 30,000 USD.
