On the morning of November 21 (local time, evening of the same day Vietnam time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the Vietnam - Dominican Republic Business Forum.

Also attending were leaders of ministries, branches, localities and representatives of several large Vietnamese enterprises such as the Oil and Gas Group, Viettel , Chemical Group, Northern Food Corporation, etc.

Dominican Republic appreciates Vietnam

At the forum, Vietnamese and Dominican Republic businesses hope to take advantage of opportunities to access each other's markets, thereby expanding to regional markets.

The Dominican Republic is the most developed economy in the Caribbean, focusing on services, tourism, exports and some agricultural production, said Pavel Isa Contreras, Minister of Economy, Planning and Development of the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Republic is considering and looking forward to importing tobacco, garments, pork, beef and many other items from Vietnam. This Caribbean country also wishes to cooperate with Vietnam to improve the agricultural supply chain; cooperate in the medical field, build tourism infrastructure, etc.

Despite the excellent political relations, the economic and trade relations between the two countries are still modest, with trade turnover reaching only about 100 million USD/year. This is also the issue that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh raised at the forum and suggested that businesses from both sides work together to resolve.

More assertive for more effective cooperation

Providing more information about Vietnam's economic position and development strategies, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that during this visit, he proposed to the leaders of the Dominican Republic to soon negotiate and sign agreements on trade, investment protection, and visas.

These will be favorable legal foundations for businesses of both sides to cooperate and invest in the coming time.

The Head of Government also said that the two sides have identified a number of specific projects to be implemented as soon as possible. These are projects in the fields of energy; digital transformation, telecommunications, artificial intelligence, semiconductors; agriculture, fertilizer production, chemicals, rice; construction; electric vehicles, etc.

In front of officials and large enterprises of the Dominican Republic, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that in the above-mentioned fields, Vietnam has large corporations and groups of the State and private sector, ready to cooperate and invest immediately.

Vietnam will consider opening an embassy in the Dominican Republic at an appropriate time. At the same time, it will study and promote the establishment of a working group and a joint committee to promote trade and investment between the two countries.

Business cooperation is not only limited to the geographical scope of the two countries but also has the potential to expand to other markets. Vietnamese enterprises cooperating and investing in the Dominican Republic can consider this a "springboard", a gateway to enter the Caribbean region.

More deeply, it also demonstrates affection and responsibility for the relationship between the two countries that was founded by previous leaders.

The Head of Government also hopes that the two sides will promptly identify specific projects and specific implementation roadmaps with a clear spirit of people, work, time, and products.

He emphasized that time, intelligence and timely decisiveness are very important factors to connect the two economies and effective cooperation between Vietnamese and Dominican Republic businesses.
